Since our inception in 2015, we have come a long way with our sojourn into the film industry. We began our innings with a superhit film Chhello Divas, an iconic Gujarati film which not only defined Gujarati cinema but also gave countless Gujarati directors and producers, a confidence in their own capabilities and their strengths. It was a proof of how a regional film can be wholeheartedly accepted by the audiences in Gujarat. Who knew the unlikely success of this film? We weren’t expecting a miracle, we just had a right hunch and we took the opportunity.
We then ventured ahead with more films. We decided to go to Bollywood. It was time for us to be more than a mere regional powerhouse. In 2016, after the success of “Chhello Divas” we produced critically acclaimed “Buddha in a Traffic Jam”. It was a new challenge for us, considering the political climate of that time. As a provocative piece, it forced a debate on the very idea of India and of the academic conception of it. Written & directed by Vivek Agnihotri, it won accolades and was critically acclaimed.
Then, in 2019, we produced “The Tashkent Files” which was released in the month of April; Based on the mysterious death of Shri Lal Bahadur Shashtri. It was one of the superhits of 2019, a surprising feat considering the number of theatres in which it was released. The Tashkent Files was written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri and has well-known actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Mithun Chakraborty, Pankaj Tripathi, Shweta Basu, etc. The film got awarded as the “Box Office Surprise Of The Year” by Zee Etc Bollywood Business Awards and also got invited for the special screening at 50th International Film Festival Of India, Goa.
After gaining recognition in Bollywood, we decided to go back to our regional roots once again. It has been 4 years since the release of Chhello Divas. The duo comprising Sharad Patel, Producer and founder of SP Cinecorp and Malhar Thakar who scorched the screens back in 2015, have now teamed up once again for our new venture: Vickida No Varghodo. This will be another comedy-thriller, full of surprises, twists and funny situations which ought to make audiences glued to their seats.
However, in the context of the current Corona virus situation, our plans for April release this year is on hold at the moment. We ask all our audiences and our cinema fans to please take care of themselves in these uncertain times and take every precaution in hygiene and keep a distance in social contact.
